Musescore 3.6.2

I installed Triskel 12 Ecne
and hoped that the Musescore 3.2 version of Triskel 11 will be updated to Musescore 3.6.2
but it stayed the same version.

I checked in the Debian repositories,
if there were newer versions of Musescore
but were not.

So, does it mean there is only one way to get a newer version of Musescore,
I mean version 3.6.2,
by an app-image or are there other possibilities?

Hello Gorrfried,

Trsiquel and/or Triskel 12 Ence is based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and not on Debian. So you should check out if the version you want is also there.

Here you can find some of the discussion, but yeah, seems a bit stalled:

I know that Trisquel is based on Ubuntu, but I checked Debian because Ubuntu bases on Debian.

The version Musescore 3.6.2 is the last version before they rebuilt Musescore completely new.

The version 4 is new and until 4.5 approximately they had to catch up,
because Musescore 3.6.2 was better then Musescore 4, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4

That´s why I asked for Musescore 3.6.2 because it works very well, I have been using it in GNU Guix
for many years.
Now there is already version 4.7 available.

but I hoped Trisquel will at least update to 3.6.2.

Unfortunately Debian wavers still to build Musescore.

MuseScore is in Flathub. To install Flatpak, setup Flathub's "floss" subset and install MuseScore, execute in a terminal:
$ sudo apt install flatpak
$ flatpak remote-add --subset=floss flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
$ flatpak install flathub org.musescore.MuseScore

Notice that the "floss" subset includes some free software that only aims to launch proprietary software!

Hello,

I am also still using musescore3, and I think it does its job very well.

Musescore 4 still has no jack support. There were discussions about it on "musescore.org".
It also recommends downloading instruments, which are not free software.

That's what I found out.

regards

I also am using Musescore 3 for 3 years already in GNU Guix
somebody was so kind and helpful to write for me a programme in Scheme
in order to use Musescore 3.6.2 in a separate profile.

I didn´t check Musescore 4, even version 4.7, which I have installed in an other profile.

I am satisfied with Musescore 3.6.2 for the moment.

In using Musescore 4 everything I did would change.

But I wanted to get Musescore 3.6.2 in Trisquel also.
That´s why my question.

I am going to install Trisquel 12 besides GNU Guix on the same laptop,
hopefully it will be possible. Trisquel 11 was not possible to install.

That should be usable also if you use Guix as a package manager in Trisquel.

that´s right.

But you have to manage
1. to install Guix as a package manager on Trisquel
and
2. to create profiles
and
3.
to use profiles and so on.

If somebody want that, and can do it,
I can share this script/programme/package
so that others can also use it.
