It's such a shame that there's so much proprietary software suggested as "alternatives" none of them seem to be aware that EU companies, even free/libre software one, can be controlled via shareholding system.
But at least in the case of free/libre systems people can go away without much damage.

european union will subsidize cpu manufacturing in europe. If these subsidized cpus require non free software in order to run european taxpayers will pay for their own subjugation in the cpu domain.
